Pinterest is my FAVORITE social media platform.
There are a few reasons but the big one is that I know if I invest 15 minutes on pinterest, I can truly enjoy the ripple effect for weeks on end. Pinterest over time has become a steady source of blog traffic which is awesome because it only requires a few minutes of work from my end.
I decided to do a quick investigation on what ways, I can optimize my Pinterest experience. Keeping in mind my Fall 2013 intention to grow my social media presence, I decided to focus on what strategies will help me gain new followers.
Over the past month, I have almost doubled my number of followers from 294 to 539. I now get to enjoy a steady influx of new followers per day without actively pinning.
I believe that the biggest gained has been in part due to optimization of my Pinterest profile page. Here are 4 simple steps you can take today that will optimize your page for new followers!
1. Remove the Push pin and update your profile picture! It does make a difference if you have a fun picture with your face because it reminds me oh you are a human being not a Pinterest spammer.
To update is simple just hover the picture and click “Edit Picture” and upload your pic.
2. Craft a Keyword-Rich Profile Description. This was the game changer for me. I believe I gained 50 new followers within the span of week. I know it has helped me in my steady growth of followers.
I crafted a Pinterest specific short about me that included what I did, what to expect from my pinning activities. I also included location as I am interested in connecting with more people in Jersey City, NJ and my website information.
You can also include in your description #hashtags, community involvement, and other keywords that will be attractive in the search button.
3. Website verification (www.pinterest.com/verify) It’s the nifty checkmark next to my website.
First things first, I converted my personal account to a “business pinterest account.” If you are blogger, you should do this too! Once you do it, it will allow you to verify your site which means you will receive a code for Pinterest analytics.
4. Connecting to Social Media Platforms: Twitter and Facebook
Under your settings, you can connect your Pinterest account to various social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+. Pinterest will inform you if any of your friends joined Pinterest (i.e. potential followers). My initial number of followers came from my Facebook friends which was nice since I didn’t do any promotion or effort around it.
Please note under facebook, I chose not link my Pinterest activity to my timeline.
I spent about 20 minutes making these updates to my profile. I have to say it has been the best time investment I made when it comes to pinterest.
