Over the past few years, I have worked and participated in countless of personal growth workshops, programs, certification and coaching experiences.
Well by July 2012, I found myself burned out and ready to take a “break” from fixing myself. I knew I needed a break because I lost my voice, passion and just felt broken. Well it was time to take a breather and put myself back together.
My approach for the past year and a half was radically different. I no longer sought out gurus to have the answer or fix me. I stopped listening to sales pitch full of pain points. I trusted my gut. I was picky on what work I chose to do. Most importantly, for all of these experience I chose to pay with cash as opposed to adding more debt.
Since I do get this question from time to time who have I worked with recently. I figured it might fun to share this roundup of the experiences & professionals I worked with from August 2012-present.
1. Back to the Therapist Couch with Dr. Adams
She took my old insurance, her office was about 3 blocks away from my office and my standing appointment fell in the middle of my long day at work. This was the ultimate me time experience. I have no regrets!
Frequency: Once a week from September 2012- June 2013 (Thank you Cigna $20 copay). Now, I see her every other week/month paying out of pocket.
Intention: Finding my voice and exploring the quality of my life. I was burned out. I needed help!
Changes: From the get go the approach was different. I was at a crossroads as I transition from a heavy treatment-based life into well living. In my case this looks like reducing significantly the # of 12-step meetings. I had to add more unstructured me time. We tackle my anxiety and thought patterns. Heck, it was in her couch that I came to the conclusion it was time to “quit my job.”
I still have “work to do” yet the amount is less overwhelming than 6 years ago. I continue to see powerful shifts that only occur in the therapy couch.
Oh yeah and she is one of the few people in my life that would call on my shit and crazy thought patterns.
2. Karie Hill – Creating Exciting Possibility
I met Karie on March 2012. I signed up to her Ditch your Debt program on April 2012. It wasn’t until November 2012 that I got to experience working with her 1:1 boy it was worth every penny.
Intention: For the one on one session, my relationship with money and life. For the group program, it became centered around the idea of change and transition as I knew I wanted to earn more money and eventually creating my own coaching practice.
Changes: Karie is intuitive, loving and will call on your bullshit as needed. I remember experiencing internal shifts and a new-found focus on why I should earn more money after our one on one session. In the process, I did job search for higher paying positions, build a fun side-hustle which became my business today. I quit my job. I followed my intuition. I live in a space of ease and flow because I can now trust myself.
3. Natalie Berthold – Family Constellation Therapy
Honest truth: i knew about Natalie’s work for a couple of years. I knew I wanted to do it but I was completely intimidated. Flash forward to July 2012 where Natalie was at the same entrepreneur meeting. We kept connecting and I offered to help her on a project. We became friends. I finally had the courage to do her work.
What is FCT? I can’t explain it eloquently only that shit works. I believe that everyone should do it. Here is Natalie’s eloquent explanation.
Frequency: One intense 2 hour session (that included good old Reiki- first time ever!) in April 2013 and 2-day group workshop in December 2013
Intention: I was curious. We worked on my core family relationship and the “story”
Changes: I felt confident in my own skin when it came to let go of abusive relationships (career job). I found myself in a place of strength. I saw a weight of anger and conflict being lifted. My relationship with my parents is night and day different. My mom says that I look and feel like a different person.
4. Jess Lively- Business Workshop + Intention Sessions
I discovered Jess’s work by accident early 2013, I started to follow her blog. I became obsessed with her work. I decided to just sign up to work with her 1:1 in the spring 2013.
Frequency: 3 Business Workshop sessions April/May 2013 and Intention Sessions August 2013
Intention: Honing in my business purpose and then my personal purpose as I transitioned out of the career job into the world of self-employment.
Changes: For the business workshop piece i was able to identify a new approach to building a business practice with intention. I gain tools on building a community and offerings that are in alignment with my core intention. For the intention sessions, well that was magic! I was able to gain a new level of clarity on how i wanted to build my life around the experiences that i crave and wanted to feel more in this new chapter in my life.
DISCLAIMER/PERSONAL NOTE: This is my personal experience. The changes i experience perhaps they are typical perhaps not. Every person has their own journey and experience. If you haven’t noticed I am an overachiever and I will put 110% of the work. I was not paid to offer this review. Heck they don’t even know that I am sharing this with you.
