Happy Monday! I spent most of the weekend in “rest mode” which was nice as I am gearing up for a couple of busy weeks with projects ahead.
Today, we have a great interview with Melody Granger. We both are part of the “Creating Fame” community. As you know I am passionate about the power of decluttering. I can’t wait to implement a few of her suggestions in my every day habits.
Hello there! I’m Melody Granger, a professional organizer who works with the most AMAZING women entrepreneurs around the world. Thank goodness for Skype video!!! It’s how I’m able to “be” with my clients as we work together. I take a down-to-earth, real life approach, to make living and working from home easier. My biggest goal is for my clients to enjoy their spaces and become “naturally” productive, by streamlining three key areas I’ve identified that make the biggest impact in the way they live, work and feel. The 3 areas are the home biz office, the closets and the routine to efficiently manage it all.
What inspired you to decide to become an Organizer for Entrepreneurs running a business from their home office?
I craved flexibility to work when I wanted, be with my girls more, and take advantage of my spontaneous nature to visit friends and family (which we moved away from!) I decided on helping others declutter and organize their environments, because it was obvious it lifted their spirits, making them healthier and happier. Not to mention more peaceful, confident about life and, of course, more productive.
In more recent years, I founded “The Well-Organized Entrepreneur.” I combined my biz office organization skills, residential skills and scheduling skills to serve the home-based woman entrepreneur. Now, I focus on helping them with streamlining the office, jazzing up their closets and creating efficient (and fun!) calendaring/routines/to-do lists because those are the TOP 3 areas that make the most incredible difference for their sanity and super-success.
When it comes to organization, what is your go to philosophy?
First, I believe that energy management is more important than time management, so I don’t focus on teaching time management. When a person feels good and somewhat in control, then they are naturally more productive.
Second, the less you have, the easier it is to make decisions on virtually EVERYTHING, the clearer and more aligned you become with what you really want in life , and the faster you can grow your business and reach your dreams.
Third, the more often you want change, then the more often you purge…to speed up the cycle of change!
Streamline, streamline, streamline.
Why is it important to maintain a level of organization?
The reason it’s important to maintain a level of organization is because when you get slammed with business or you get really involved in your life, then you can blink and suddenly find yourself in a mess, feel overwhelmed or have your confidence shaken. It can happen so fast.
And it does to every entrepreneur at some point or another – and often more than once, depending on their growth phases.
Organization is a form of prevention; or to keep things running smoothly.
Plus, it simply makes everything function so much easier.
I’ve noticed that most people organize for times when they aren’t busy and so they don’t take into account how well their systems will work when they get really busy and need to move fast. If the systems are too complicated, then chances are, it won’t last when a person begins moving too fast to take the time to use it properly.
I just wanted to throw that in there, so if you’re organizing something, then I highly recommend that you keep this in mind, so your systems will stand the test of time.
What inspires you to continue living a life you love each day?
Lots of things inspire me. My family. My clients. My friends. My flowers. My pillow. The jokes I make up in my head. My favorite, “it’s so me” clothes. The great outdoors, the sunshine. My sparkly clean car. A very clean home. (Not perfectionism, but really clean, way more often than not!)
I’m pretty selfish when it comes to my happiness. I choose happiness.
And, who ever crosses my path, I’m probably going to impact their lives in a very subtle, positive way, because I have a sunny disposition and wish everyone can have a great day, despite the bigger problems we all face from time to time.
At the end of the day, I believe we’re all selfishly trying to love life. It’s very inspiring to know that all I have to do is be happy first. Everything else seems to fall in place and becomes easier to do when I’m living a life I love each day and making it easy through a streamlined environment!
