What have you been up to lately?
Think about it.
Have you’ve been spending hours working on a job, feeling grumpy?
Have you’ve been caught up in the latest drama? Chaos?
Have you’ve been feeling empty or disoriented?
Before you move on looking for an escape plan from your job. Saying “I quit!” I am going to be a full-time entrepreneur, blogger, coach, [insert passion purpose career thingy]
I dare you to take a full step back.
I dare you to be still and reconnect with your gut
Don’t let your ego/your mind call in the shots. Telling you need to escape from the job to be happy. Telling you must work harder, faster, get that promotion, jump x, y, z ladder to feel good or worthy. No matter what if you let your ego call in the shot of your life you are screwed.
Trust your gut that says you have a choice. You can feel ok where you are right now. Yes, as cliched as it sounds it’s time to “accept the what is.”
Again, I dare you to take another step back.
Think about it. What have you been up to lately?
How are you spending your time?
- Are you allowing yourself to read something that engages your brain and has nothing to do with work related/future tripping stuff?
- Are you allowing yourself to enjoy the latest season [Insert your own kind of binge watching worthy tv]?
- Are you allowing yourself to leave work on time? Are you allowing yourself to just sit and breathe?
- Are you allowing yourself to feel ok right at this very moment?
- Are you allowing yourself to step outside of the office and just breathe?
- Are you allowing yourself to play? Be a kid? Be silly?
I dare you, before you take the leap into the unknown to get quiet.
Explore who you are? What is your identity separate from your own body of work? Identify who you are separate from the “What do you do” “Who do you serve? and 30 second schpeel? What is it that makes you feel good? What are the qualities that lights you up? What are the experience that call in joy? What are the values that anchor your life?
This is not about finding your purpose or waiting for life to begin when you get a new job/better boss/that promotion/the perfect set of clients or six figures year. This is about embracing the moment and making a different choice.
[Editors Note] Yes I am aware that I do offer an opt-in that is all about a job “exit plan” and how to quit AND that it may look like I am contradicting myself based on this post. It’s ok.
Here is my POV, I believe that there are times that we need to step outside of our comfort zone and find jobs that are no longer toxic and mismatch to our needs. The challenge is that we place so much expectation in terms of feeling peace and happiness on the future that we miss out where we are in this present moment. We have a choice whether we continue to deprive ourselves from living a life that can feel stable, peaceful despite the crazy, chaotic behavior. We have a choice to make changes right were we are. Guess what, if you start to do some of those shifts what happens can be miraculous. You find yourself experiencing choices that at one point would be unimaginable. You get to build your self-worth and belief that you deserve better. I know it is to be true for me and those around me. My sincerest wish is for you to truly experience it.
