October was a good month when it comes to the #declutter project. I released a total 117 things out of my life. What was more exciting was that I incorporate donations ans sales through ebay/craigslist.
Donations- Art Supplies
A bulk of my things this month came in the form of “arts and craft” supplies. I found a box of gently used acrylic paints and brushes that just needed a new home.
Lightbulb!? Two of my friends have a non-profit called Arts and Dreams and can use these supplies.
What is Arts and Dreams is a nonprofit organization that go to schools and fairs around NYC teaching kids about affirmation through painting. The big intention is to provide them to tools and empowered them to love themselves.
The donation process was fairly easy. I shoot to Laura B and Patricia G an email asking if they were interested. They were – YAY! We setup a time for drop off. I had the pleasure then to see Laura B and we were able to catch up on how things are going.
Selling on Ebay & Craigslist
First, I was inspired in getting rid of this chair. I bought it about 5 years ago and I have only used it a handful of times. I will be honest, I put it on a sale on a whim.
Well the process was fairly easy. I took a couple of pictures, looked at Ikea for the name of the chair and how much it cost currently. I priced it at $15 which was comparable to other posts on Craigslist. I posted and received one email within 24 hours. Well the rest is history.
I have to say getting rid of the chair made a difference in my space. It made my room feel larger and I now had access to the linen closet which is November’s #Declutter project.
Ebay- Lululemon Shorts
I received these Lululemon shorts last year as part of blogger clothing fiasco (the company before Ellie). I will be honest they were not my style but for some reason I have been hanging on to them because well they are Lululemon pants.
This time around I decided to test out Ebay. I made a post, setup the price to $45 (or a better offer) along with shipping and handling. I was a first-time Ebay seller so I had some hiccups in the process including the verification of the product, etc. It took me about 72 hours between the initial post and selling the shorts. They did. I took care of mailing them and well I made a total of $46.
Working with a Reorganizer –“When the student is ready, the teacher appears”
One of my clients is Leah Fisch Reorganizer (get on the list and you’ll get her methodology to reorganizing any project. As part of my orientation I had the opportunity to attend her reorganzing workshop last month.
I had a couple of interesting insights in the workshop, the big one is my go to mechanism when it comes to organizing stuff- I am a purger. I will either hoard them until it just feel uncomfortable and then I just purge. Most of my stuff would go into the recycle or trash bin. Let’s say as a recovered bulimic this not surprising and its just an opportunity to accept my style and pray for the willingness to try something different.
What are my next steps for November?
My goal will be to get rid/donate/recycle/sell: 100 things. My plan is to tackle the Linen Closet and 1 Catch All Drawer.
I want to hear from you, when it comes to your own decluttering process? Have you sold anything on Ebay/Craigslist?
Also do you have any questions that you want the reorganizer answer?
