Tell us a little bit about yourself and The U Project?
I’m a wife, a mother, and a passionate advocate for self-care and the transformative power of a good lipstick. I was lucky enough to be born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and I have yet to find a place that’s as beautiful – so I think I’ll stay 😉
The U Project is about redefining ‘self-care.’ I think a lot of us feel guilty taking time away from our jobs, families, and responsibilities to care for ourselves – particularly when we’re spending time on things like a manicure or a face mask. But when you look good, you feel good and when you feel good you’re a better employee, partner, parent, and friend.
Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s smart. Tweet it!
What inspired you to help women look beautiful?
First hand experience! Like most wives and mothers, I found myself getting worn down by the everyday and “letting myself go.” I’d spent so much time running my kids around town and taking care of my home, I’d let my nails go ragged, my hair get puffy, and my skin dry out.
When I took a moment to myself – took a nice bubble bath, played my favorite music and painted on a new nail color – I was transformed. Not just physically, but emotionally. I was more patient with my kids, more confident at work, more flirty with my husband. I want everyone to experience that!
What advice would you give to women who crave living a richer/full life?
Stop guilt tripping yourself for wanting more. Yes, it’s important to take care of the people in your life and pull your weight at work, but it’s also important to recharge your batteries. If you’ve worked hard, buy that new dress! Schedule that hair cut! You deserve it.
What are your go to self-care tools and experiences that restores you to your best self?
My self-care comes in the shape of an at-home spa day. I swear by Satin Lips to exfoliate a dry winter pucker, Botanical Effects mask, and the Satin Hands pampering set. Those plus a glass of red wine and a Norah Jones cd and I’m set for the week!
What inspires you to continue living a life you love each day?
I want my kids to know that it’s possible to have a career you love, that helps people, and actually pays the bills.
