An epic, three-book saga of forbidden love coming 2017.
It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken...no matter how hard we tried.
I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.
I started to read this book with only knowing that it’s part of a 3 book series. Other than that I went to this book blind.
This is the story of Lake and Manning. Lake is a straight A 16 year old student. She is a good girl whose sole focus is to get into USC. She is shy. She is naive and innocent.
One afternoon, she meets Manning. Manning works in the construction next door to Lake’s. He is older and he is handsome. Lake and Manning has an attraction however they never act upon it.
Tiffany, Lake’s sister is also interested in Manning. She is older than Lake and they start a relationship.
All three characters go to work at a camp. One night Lake sneaks out with Manning and they almost act upon their attraction but they were interrupted. Events that happen after that one night leads to a cliffhanger in the end of the book.
I love the pace of the book. It started slow but by the end it picked up the pace and I couldn’t stopped reading. This book was a slow burn romance.
Personally, I couldn’t stand Tiffany’s character. She was a spoiled brat.
Overall this was a good book. I wish I can have book 2 in my hands to binge read.
Disclosure: I received a free ARC from the author in exchange of an honest review. The opinions are my own.
